NTA does not publish official weightage, so every table you have ever seen is somebody's estimate, and the estimates disagree with each other by a lot. One respected source puts Optics at 11.79 per cent and another puts it at 6.6 per cent. So use these numbers to order your chapters, and never to skip one.

Figures read from Careers360's chapter wise weightage page, which states it analysed 475 questions, and Collegedunia's, both checked in August 2026. Neither is wrong. We are showing the spread rather than hiding it, because a student allocating months of study deserves to know how firm the numbers are.

Look at the direction of the disagreement too. It is not consistent, so one source is not simply reporting higher figures throughout. Careers360 is higher on four chapters and lower on two. That is what you would expect from different counting methods rather than from one being wrong.

The reason is mundane once you see it. One compiler counts a question that uses integration inside a coordinate geometry problem as coordinate geometry, another counts it as integral calculus, and neither choice is unreasonable. Multiply that judgement across several hundred questions and you get gaps of five percentage points without anybody making a mistake.

What this means for you, practically. Treat the ordering as reliable and the exact percentage as noise. Every source agrees coordinate geometry is the biggest block in maths and that calculus is enormous. No source can tell you whether a chapter will be worth 6.6 or 11.79 per cent in your paper. The honest caveat on five months. This works if you are starting from a reasonable Class 11 base. If you are starting from nothing, five months to full coverage plus rehearsal is not realistic for most students, and the better plan is to target both sessions and accept that Session 2 in April is your real attempt.
