The number of questions to solve daily for JEE is smaller than the numbers you see on social media, and the reason is arithmetic rather than opinion. A school going Class 12 student has about three hours of solving time, a JEE question takes about five minutes once you include reading the solution, and that gives you roughly 35 questions. Anybody promising 100 a day is either counting very easy questions or not counting the analysis, and the analysis is where the marks are.
Twenty to twenty five in Class 11, thirty to forty in Class 12, sixty to eighty as a dropper. Count only questions you attempted properly and then reviewed, because a question you looked at and gave up on is not a question you solved. If you have to choose between doing forty questions and reviewing twenty properly, review the twenty. That is not a soft answer, it is the one the marking scheme rewards.
Students ask for this number because it feels controllable. Hours studied is vague and marks are months away, but questions solved is a clean daily score you can hit. That is exactly why it becomes a trap, and why this guide spends more time on what to count than on the count itself.

Any honest figure for questions to solve daily for JEE has to be built rather than quoted, and there are only two inputs. How long a question takes, and how many hours you actually have. Everything else is guesswork dressed up as advice.

Now divide. Three hours of solving is 180 minutes. At five minutes a question that is 36 questions, and that is where the Class 12 band comes from. There is nothing clever about it, which is the point.
These are daily targets for a normal working day, not for your best day. A target you hit four days out of seven is not a target, it is a wish.

JEE Main gives you 75 questions in 180 minutes, 25 per subject, with 20 multiple choice and 5 numericals in each, all of them compulsory. You can confirm the current structure in the JEE Main information bulletin and on the NTA website. Every correct answer is worth 4 marks and every wrong answer costs 1, and since the pattern change that negative marking now applies to the numericals too, where it used to not.
That last detail matters more than it sounds. A student trained on volume learns to attempt everything, and attempting everything is now punished in a section where it never used to be. Here is the same paper attempted four different ways.

The student who attempted 50 scored 40 marks more than the student who attempted 70. Twenty fewer questions, forty more marks. In a year where a few marks move your rank by thousands, that gap is the whole argument.
So the number of questions to solve daily for JEE is not really a volume target. It is whatever count still lets you finish each question properly, because accuracy is a habit you build in practice and cannot switch on in January.
An even split feels fair and is usually wrong, because the three subjects do not respond to practice in the same way.

A starting split, not a rule. Your weakest subject should take more for a few weeks at a time, then hand the share back.
Chemistry is the one people get wrong. Inorganic is largely memory work, so grinding questions at it is inefficient compared with spaced revision, while physical chemistry behaves much more like physics and does need solving. Splitting chemistry into its three branches before you assign a number is worth doing once.
A question you skipped, glanced at the answer for, and moved on from is not solved. It sits in your daily count and does nothing for your score. Count only questions you attempted seriously and then either got right or understood afterwards. Most students find their real number is about half of what they were reporting.
Practice drifts towards comfortable chapters because they are pleasant and the count goes up fast. Forty questions from a chapter you already score well in is a pleasant evening with no effect on your rank. The uncomfortable chapter at fifteen questions was the better hour.
Writing down why you got something wrong takes two minutes and costs you a question off the daily total, so it is the first thing to go when you are chasing a target. It is also the single highest value two minutes in your day. If the count is preventing the review, the count is now working against you.

Daily targets fail on their own because real weeks are uneven. This shape survives a bad Tuesday, which is the only test that matters.
That last step is worth taking seriously. A student doing 25 questions a day for eight months finishes around 6,000 questions. A student who sets 60, manages it for three weeks and then gives up finishes far fewer, and feels worse the whole time.
If you are also sitting JEE Advanced, note that its paper structure changes year to year and is published separately on the official JEE Advanced site, so the pacing you train for Main is not automatically the pacing you need there.
About 20 to 25 a day in Class 11, 30 to 40 in Class 12, and 60 to 80 as a full time dropper. Splitting your target by subject rather than applying one number to all three is the fix.
Around 60 to 80, based on roughly six hours of solving at about five minutes a question. That is the honest ceiling for full time preparation once you include reading solutions and maintaining an error log. Droppers who push past it usually do so by dropping the review, which removes most of the value of the extra questions.
Not necessarily. JEE Main awards 4 marks for a correct answer and deducts 1 for a wrong one, and that negative marking now applies to the numerical questions as well. On the arithmetic, 50 attempts at 92 percent accuracy scores 180, while 70 attempts at 60 percent accuracy scores 140. Twenty fewer attempts, forty more marks. Accuracy is built in daily practice, not chosen on exam day.
A reasonable starting split is about 40 percent maths, 35 percent physics and 25 percent chemistry, then shift more towards your weakest subject for a few weeks at a time. Within chemistry, give most of the questions to physical chemistry and handle inorganic through revision instead, since grinding questions at memory based material is inefficient.
Questions are the better daily unit because an hour can pass without much happening, while a solved and reviewed question is real work. But neither is the number that predicts your score. Track your accuracy and the count of mistakes you understood afterwards. If chasing the question total is squeezing out the review, the total has started working against you.
Switch the unit. In the final four to six weeks, full papers under real timing serve you better than loose questions, because what you need then is pacing and stamina rather than volume. One full paper plus two hours of analysis is a better use of a day than eighty scattered questions, and the papers you sit should be spread out rather than stacked at the end.
The honest version of this answer has two halves. The number is 20 to 25, 30 to 40, or 60 to 80 depending on where you are, and it comes from dividing your real solving hours by about five minutes a question.
The second half is the part that decides your rank. Fifty questions done properly beat seventy done quickly, and the marking scheme proves it rather than merely suggesting it. Every mark of that 40 mark gap was earned in ordinary evenings months earlier.
So set a weekly total you can actually meet, weight it towards the chapters you avoid, keep an error log, and read it on Saturdays.
